Chelsea has announced the arrival of Portuguese talent Giovani Kenda from Sporting Lisbon. The deal for the player, valued at €47 million (£40 million), was finalized back in March 2025, but Kenda was allowed to spend the past season on loan with the Lisbon-based club. As of today, the 19-year-old Kenda is officially at Stamford Bridge, having signed a contract until 2034.
A Sporting academy product, Kenda plays as a wing-back and is predominantly left-footed. The Blues' plan is for him to be integrated into the senior squad rather than being loaned out again, though the final decision will rest with new manager Xabi Alonso.
“I’m excited to work with my new teammates and with coach Xabi Alonso. I am a young man who works very hard, and I love to help the team,” Kenda stated.
The talented player was born in Guinea-Bissau but has represented Portugal at youth international levels.
For Sporting's first team, he scored 9 goals and provided 17 assists in 86 appearances.
