The 25-year-old Irish middleweight boxer faced a stern test from the former European champion. Denny, 35, had troubled George Liddard in March, and while the scorecards didn't favor him then, he delivered a similar performance against Walsh. The judges awarded Walsh the win with scores of 96-90 and 98-91 (twice), but these figures didn't fully reflect Denny's relentless effort.

The West Midlands fighter, now 21-5-3 (1 KO), pressured Walsh from the outset, using his physical strength in close quarters to unsettle the young Irishman. In the first round, Denny even registered a knockdown. The fight became scrappy, and Walsh found himself on his knees under his opponent's weight. Walsh naively expected the referee to intervene, but Denny continued his assault, and the Irishman touched the canvas.

Walsh quickly recovered and re-entered the fray. Early in the second round, Walsh returned the favor, dropping Denny with a perfectly timed straight left to the chin as Denny charged in recklessly. Denny rose swiftly and wasted no time resuming his pressure. Walsh managed to land effective combinations with his dazzling hand speed when opportunities arose, but Denny rarely afforded him that chance. The experienced fighter consistently moved forward, and while he didn't land many power shots, his physical presence wore down Walsh.

Walsh appeared fatigued at the start of the fifth round, and Denny seized the momentum in that stanza. The Irishman seemed to find a second wind in the seventh round, hurting Denny towards the end of it. Walsh connected with a straight left that sent Denny stumbling towards the ropes, then followed up with four consecutive hooks, but the bell prematurely ended his assault.

The fight grew increasingly intense, with both men trading blows in the ninth round. Denny landed a straight left before Walsh retaliated with a right uppercut. Denny surely knew that despite the competitive nature of the bout, he wouldn't be ahead on the scorecards in hostile territory and sought a knockout in the tenth and final round.

With this victory, Walsh improves his record to 17-0 (11 KOs), but he undoubtedly recognizes the need for improvements if he aims to contend for world titles.
