Rangers lose to Zamalek, Rivers United win at home
Reigning champions of the
Rangers faced Zamalek in the round of 32 first leg at the Cairo’s El-Salam Stadium.
The Antelopes conceded three goals in the first half with Stanley Ohawuchi opening scoring for the host.
Hossam Salama and Ayman Hefni added a goal each to make it 3-0 in the first half.
Zamalek added a fourth through Mostafa Fathi with a penalty just nine minutes into the second half before Rangers forward Bobby Clement added what could be a crucial away goal in the dying minutes of the game.
Another Nigerian representative in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United beat Al-Merrikh of Sudan 3-0 in Port Harcourt also on Sunday.
Guy Kuemian netted a brace in the first half, netting in the 15th before doubling the lead three minutes later.
Esosa Igbinosa scored in the 85th minute to seal the win.
The winner of the tie will qualify for the group stage of the competition.
