Bulgarian boxers secured three medals at the highly competitive "Great Silk Way" international tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan. The national team members earned bronze accolades amidst a field of over 120 boxers from three continents.
Victorio Iliev (65 kg), Semyon Boldyrev (90 kg), and Kiril Georgiev (+90 kg) all finished third in their respective categories. Yassen Radev (60 kg) faced misfortune, as his participation was cut short due to a severe cut, forcing him to withdraw before the semi-finals.
The Bulgarian Boxing Federation was also represented in Baku by Executive Director Svetoslav Sapundzhiev, who served as a technical delegate qualified by European Boxing. Maria Kavaklieva once again distinguished herself with precise and timely interventions as a ringside judge.
The "Great Silk Way" tournament served as a crucial preparatory event for the national team ahead of the World Cup in Brazil. The tournament in Foz do Iguaçu, scheduled from April 20 to 26, holds significant importance for accumulating points in the international rankings on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Bulgaria's squad for the World Cup will be announced next week. The national team is set to depart for Brazil on April 16.
