SON embarks on quality tests of materials

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) is set to stop the high rate of building collapses.

Dr Barth Okoko, an Assistant Director of SON, said: “The awareness drive was necessary to educate dealers on engineering procedures of identifying quality of the products.”

SON is currently doing quality tests of iron rods, other building materials, gathering details of their manufacturers, as well as sensitizing dealers of the products in Abuja.

Afterwards, manufacturers of sub-standard building materials will either be called in for questioning or arrested.
