The Puerto Rican boxer suffered a brain hemorrhage during his 2015 fight with Williams after sustaining blows to the back of the head. Colón was knocked down twice before ultimately losing by disqualification. Following the match, he felt unwell and was rushed to the hospital.

Colón subsequently spent 221 days in a coma. After regaining consciousness, he was unable to walk, as reported by boxingscene.com. Al Haymon, the promoter of the fight between Colón and Williams, had been providing support to the boxer and his family since the tragic incident.

“Good morning everyone. It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of my son, Prichard, from this earthly world. He is now in a better place,” Prichard Colón's father, Richard Colón, wrote on social media today.

“I did everything possible to fulfill his wish, his dream of taking him on vacation to Puerto Rico, as he so desperately wanted, but it was not possible. Thank you for so many years of love and prayers. Please continue to support us with your prayers as much as you can.”

It remains unclear whether Colón's death is directly linked to the injuries he sustained in the ring against Williams.
