No further details have yet been released, but Brook's injuries are not thought to be severe.

The 28-year-old from Sheffield picked up the IBF welterweight belt against Shawn Porter in California last month, but the incident in the Canary Islands casts doubt over a potential defence of the title in Sheffield in December.

There are now also question marks surrounding plans for a fight against fellow British fighter Amir Khan in the near future.

Promoter Eddie Hearn had confirmed on Wednesday that discussions over the pair going toe-to-toe at Wembley in May were under way.

Brook was previously the victim of a stabbing while on a night out in Sheffield in 2007.
