The success of Bayelsa United in the Aiteo was like a fairy tale. Few people gave them the chance to lift the trophy, since it has been won mostly times by teams in the top flight of Nigerian football but they surprised everyone

As the statutes stipulate, they are in the CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of their Aiteo Cup victory. The team led by Diepreye Tiebowei has proven that their victory at the Aiteo Cup was not a fluke. They beat Ashanti Golden Boys 4-2 to progress to the next round and they were paired with CS Sfaxien, a bigger side on the continent. On Sunday, the "Prosperity Boys" beat the Algerian club 1-0 in Yenegoa

This team has shown what a good management, coaches and players can achieve. There has also been stability as regards the coaching crew and the team has been together for some time. The Bayelsa State Government has given them all the support they need and they have not disappointed

The team is a good blend of youth and experience. Their goals are well taken while their attack is blistering. Beniangba's goal against CS Sfaxien was sublime as he expertly dribbled the Tunisian team's defense before that goal.

In Teibowei, the team has found a coach who is attack-minded and ambitious and his zeal is contagious. The former Calabar Rovers player does not bow in fear before any game and that mindset is what the players also have.

When the team travel to the Stade Taïeb Mhiri to play the second leg in Tunisia, they will also go with the same confidence with which they have faced their opponents. No matter what the outcome is, this team has already made a statement of intact and they have written their names in the history books of Nigerian football.
