New Manchester United signing Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that coach Louis van Gaal is not the main reason behind his decision to move to the club.
Schweinsteiger worked with Van Gaal during the Dutch manager's time at as Bayern Munich coach between 2009 and 2011.
Because of their previous history, it was assumed that Van Gaal was the reason the German midfielder made his move to Manchester United but Schweinsteiger said the assumptions are not true.
"When you know how the coach ticks, and how he wants to play football, it makes the decision easier," Schweinsteiger said in an interview with .
"But for the main part I came to England because of the club Manchester United."
Speaking in an interview with the German newspaper, Schweinsteiger says he trust Van Gaal to turn United into a title winning team.
'It’s not like I can say: I have signed for three years, now we’ll win three straight titles," the 31-year-old said.
"The Premier League is a very strong league. , , and all have a high quality.
"But those who know me also know that I always want to win titles. And I think that Manchester United are a club which can win titles.
"I am convinced that it is possible to usher in a new era at Manchester United - especially under Louis van Gaal. Just like when he took over at Bayern. That excites me.
"I can promise that I will give it my all and will try to help the club reach the level of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern once again."
Schweinsteiger yesterday, Tuesday, August 18 came in as a second half substitute in United 3-2 win over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League Play-Off.
