SuperSport United FC sign Nigerian defender

After just a year in Finland, the defender has moved to South Africa where he will be playing for SuperSport United FC.

Egwuekwe played his football last season with Finnish club KuPS which he joined in 2016.

“SuperSport FC can confirm the signing of 28-year old Nigerian central defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe on a three-year deal,” the South African Premier Division club announced on Twitter.

Egwuekwe impressed last season with KuPS scoring five goals in 32 games.

He started his career in 2006 with Nasarawa United before joining Yerima Strikers where he played for one year.

He then spent seven years at Warri Wolves before he moved to Finland.

The 28-year-old made his Super Eagles debut in 2012 and played in several 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He made the Super Eagles squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup.

He was also named in the squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship(CHAN).
