Skelton's international career could hardly have got off to a better start, with the 22-year-old swatting away two defenders to score the opening try of the match in Sydney.
The Waratahs man was outstanding throughout the contest, as Australia ran out 39-13 winners to round off their first 3-0 series whitewash over France.
Skelton was withdrawn on the hour mark to a standing ovation at the Allianz Stadium.
He appears to be in the driving seat for a place in the Wallabies XV when they meet New Zealand in the first Bledisloe Cup meeting of the year on August 16.
However, Skelton is refusing to get carried away, and is instead focusing on the Waratahs' Super Rugby derby clash with the Brumbies next weekend.
"I'm not thinking about that (playing the All Blacks) at the moment - I'm ready to go back for the Tahs and play the Brumbies," he said.
"One thing Ewen (McKenzie, Australia's coach) said before the game was that if you get picked for the next Test, that's the goal.
"The first cap is a very special moment, but if you don't get picked for the next game I guess there was no point in really going out there.
"It was a lot different to Super Rugby, there were long passages of play that you've got to be on point and the intensity was a lot higher than Super Rugby, but I felt that I coped well and I was really happy with the result."
