Super Falcons’ striker Asisat Oshoala has been named Sports Personality of the Year by a top Nigerian newspaper.

The Liverpool forward is also the reigning BBC Women Football of the Year.

The 22-year-old was named the Most Valuable Player of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Canada, where Nigeria finished runner-up.

She was also named Player of the Tournament at the 2014 African Women Championship in Namibia, where she also finished as the second Best Goalscorer.

The award was presented at the Leadership newspaper’s Conference/Awards ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, October 7 at the Sheraton Hotel.

Oshoala who is currently injured was not at the award ceremony but was represented by the Team Administrator of the U-20 Women National Team, Mrs Faith Ben-Anuge who picked up the award.
