Nigerian tennis star makes history in ITTF ranking after impressive Rio 2016
After his impressive run in
Quadri was impressive in Rio 2016, beating fifth-seeded player Chih-Yuan Chuang in the third round and German Boll Timo in the fourth to make it to the quarter-finals where he lost to world number one, Long Ma.
He rose from 40th to 25th, in the latest table tennis world rankings released by ITTF on Tuesday, September 6.
With this rise, he becomes the first African tennis player to be in the top 25.
The 28-year-old is also set to play in the after he was included in the 20-man list for the Liebherr 2016 ITTF Men's World Cup to be held in Saarbrucken, Germany.
Quadri was invited to the tourney which holds in October 2016 as a result of his impressive performances at the Olympic Games.
Veteran Nigerian player Segun Toriola rose from 120 to 106. In Rio, Toriola was knocked off in the first round of Men’s Singles and Double.
