Arsenal is reportedly nearing an agreement with Aston Villa for England international Ezri Konsa. According to David Ornstein, the London club has made a breakthrough in negotiations, convincing the Birmingham side to lower their asking price for the 28-year-old defender. The exact sum under discussion was not specified, but Villa Park had previously been seeking £60 million for the English international.

Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his squad with a new defender due to William Saliba's injury and Jurrien Timber's recurring issues. Consequently, the club is searching for a versatile player capable of operating both as a central defender and on the right side of the defense.

Last week, The Athletic reported that the Gunners had also shown interest in another English international, Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen.

Konsa has two years remaining on his contract with Aston Villa. The defender was a key member of the England squad that secured bronze medals at this summer's World Cup. He started every match until the 2-1 loss to Argentina in the round of 16, where he came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute. He has made 286 appearances for Villa since joining from Brentford in 2019.
