The transfer fee for the Hamburg academy product is reportedly 20 million euros, according to AFP. Coulibaly featured in 27 matches last season, helping Werder Bremen secure their spot in the German Bundesliga. He represents Strasbourg's most expensive acquisition of the current transfer window. The club, part of the BlueCo group which also owns Chelsea, has been actively recruiting several promising young talents.

On Wednesday, Strasbourg announced the arrival of 21-year-old Costa Rican international defender Jeyland Mitchell from Austrian club Sturm Graz. Conversely, several key players have departed the club this summer, including Paraguayan Julio Enciso and Ivorian international Abdoul Ouattara, both heading to Ipswich. Belgian international Diego Moreira, meanwhile, has transferred to AC Milan.

In June, Strasbourg was fined 13 million euros by UEFA for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
