Tennis star marks IPTL debut by beating Federer
Andy Murray made a successful debut for the Singapore Slammers in the International Premier Tennis League as he saw off Roger Federer in their matchup with the UAE Royals.
Murray also took part in both the mixed doubles and men's doubles. The Brit - partnering Belinda Bencic - was substituted in favour of Nick Kyrgios as Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic prevailed 6-3 in the mixed.
The two-time grand slam champion then came in for Kyrgios to help Marcelo Melo overturn a 5-4 deficit against Federer and Marin Cilic and win 6-5.
Earlier the Slammers' Carlos Moya beat Goran Ivanisevic 6-4 in the men's legends singles, while Karolina Pliskova defeated Mladenovic 6-5 in the women's singles.
The Indian Aces won all five sets to claim a 30-17 victory over the Philippine Mavericks.
Rohan Bopanna overcame James Blake 6-0 in the legends set, Agnieszka Radwanska was a 6-4 winner over Ajla Tomljanovic in her singles clash and Ivan Dodig came in for Bopanna during the mixed to ensure a 6-4 victory alongside Sania Mirza versus Jarmila Gajdosova and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
Bopanna and Dodig then won 6-5 in the men's doubles against Roger-Vasselin and Treat Huey before Bernard Tomic emerged triumphant 6-4 in his singles set with Ivo Karlovic.
