Arsenal youth star, Alex Iwobi has been invited to Nigeria's senior national team by Sunday Oliseh

After choosing to play for Nigeria over the country where he was born and raise, Arsenal youth star Alex Iwobi has been given his first call-up to the Super Eagles.

Coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh has added the 19-year-old Arsenal striker to his squad for next month’s friendlies against Congo and Cameroon in October.

Though he was born in Nigeria, Iiwobi who is the nephew of ex Super Eagles captain Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha was raised in England and have for their Under 16, 17 and 18 teams.

He however chose to play for Nigeria at the senior level and even trained with the Nigerian Dream Team earlier in the year.

‘My dad too has told me a lot of things about the honour and pride that goes with playing for Nigeria,” Daily Mail quoted him as speaking about choosing to play for Nigeria.

“So I thought a lot about this and decided to play for Nigeria.”

While Nigerians can be happy with the one star gains, they also could be disappointed after missing on another young talent.

Liverpooldespite receiving an approach from Sunday Oliseh.

It was Oliseh who took to his Twitter account on Sunday, September 13 to reveal that Ibe has decided to play for his country of birth, England.

"Jordon Ibe's Family Informed me by a Telephone call, that He was giving priority to an England call up. We wish them well," Sunday Oliseh tweeted.
