Ekubo shared the photo on X on June 28, 2014, showing himself and Osoba on the set of a Yoruba film. He captioned the post, "Shooting a Yoruba Movie, i'm super Excited about this one, working with this amazing talent Tope Osoba."

The post attracted attention when it was first shared, with some fans asking whether Ekubo could speak Yoruba. The actor had replied that the language was easy for him.

More than a decade later, the post has drawn fresh attention after fans noticed the tragic coincidence that both actors died at the age of 40 after separate battles with cancer.

Osoba died at the age of 40, about two years after publicly speaking about her battle with breast cancer. Her death was announced on Wednesday by fellow actor Alesh Sanni, who paid tribute to her in an emotional Instagram post.

Ekubo, on the other hand, died on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos following a private battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Reacting to the resurfaced post, fans expressed shock and sadness over the similarities in the actors' lives.

Adebola said, "Fate played such a cruel game with both of you. Both died of cancer at the age of 40."
