Just hours before the Indonesian Grand Prix, the factory Honda team announced that Aleix Espargaro will not line up on the grid at Mandalika.
The decision stems from the Spaniard's physical condition, which remains far from optimal following a severe injury sustained during private testing in Malaysia earlier this spring. After an extended spell on the sidelines, Espargaro is still lacking the race fitness required for one of the most physically demanding rounds on the calendar.
Honda therefore opted to withdraw their rider from the Mandalika race, where he was scheduled to start from the back of the grid. Espargaro stepped in for the race weekend on Lombok island as a substitute for the unwell Joan Mir, who is now missing his third consecutive MotoGP round.
