Tertiary institution in Oyo State embarks on strike

 
 
Alayande College of Education in Oyo state has on Wednesday reportedly embarked on a strike.

The industrial action was embarked upon after Students of Alayande College of Education on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest within the school premises as a result of the indefinite postponement of the first semester examination, The Nation reports.

It was gathered that the examination billed to start on Monday, 25th May was initially postponed to this week and now till further notice.

Students however ran out of patience when the school authority notified them on Tuesday that the examination has being postponed indefinitely and took to the streets within the campus to protest. Obisesan Monsur, the President of the Student Union Government (SUG), is reported to have organised the peaceful protest and gave the school an ultimatum of one week to procure a lasting solution.

Further investigation revealed that staff salaries in the institution have been unpaid by Federal Government for a long time, which resulted in the school going on strike.

Addressing the students, the Deputy Provost, Alhaji O. Y. Akinyemi, promised that the school will see to their grievances and will move to effect quick resumption. He also pleaded with the student to suspend the protests.
