He spoke to the media on Thursday ahead of the Super Eagles' clash with Sudan on Saturday.

The midfielder has been a regular for Spanish Second division side Huesca this season, featuring 21 times so far.

Despite regular football, many feel he should not have been called up ahead of the likes of Akinwunmi Amoo (Hammarby IF) and Calvin Bassey (Rangers) who are both enjoying solid seasons for their clubs.

Amoo is one of Nigeria's most creative players this season in Europe. He has scored 40 chances with five assists.

The former Arsenal man gave his thoughts on the criticism he has received recently.

“I’m not under any pressure, because if I’m not good, the coach won’t call me.

“What I owe the coach is to give my best in every training session and the game, and to make sure I live to expectations.” Nwakali said.

Super Eagles Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has spoken highly of Nwakali and Chidera Ejuke- both of whom are debutants in this year's AFCON.

Nwakali made his debut in the 80th minute of the Super Eagles' 1-0 win over Egypt on Tuesday.
