This construction is called the “Tall Wood Building,” and it is for approximately 400 upper year and graduate students of University of British Columbia (UBC).

UBC Interim President, Martha Piper, has released a statement concerning the purpose of the tower.

“This beautiful, new tall wood building will serve as a living laboratory for the UBC community. It will advance the university’s reputation as a hub of sustainable and innovative design and provide our students with much-needed on-campus housing.”

Scheduled to be complete by 2017, the building will have 33 four-bed units, 272 studio apartments, both study and social areas on the ground floor, a communal student lounge on the top floor.
