July 23, 1966, marks an indelible date in the annals of national football history. Exactly 60 years ago, the world witnessed Portugal's epic comeback against North Korea (5-3) in the 1966 World Cup quarter-finals in England, a match where Eusébio da Silva Ferreira emerged as the undisputed hero.

The Asian side started with blistering pace at Goodison Park, Liverpool, and by the 25th minute, they had already established a commanding 3-0 lead, courtesy of goals from Pak Seung-zin (1'), Lee Dong-woon (22'), and Yang Song-guk (25').

Just as the nightmare seemed endless, Eusébio single-handedly turned the game on its head. He pulled one back in the first half, scoring in the 27th and 43rd minutes – the latter from the penalty spot. In the second half, he completed his quadruple (56' and 59', with his final personal goal also a penalty), securing the triumph, which José Augusto then sealed in the 80th minute.

Portugal's remarkable campaign in that World Cup edition would ultimately conclude in the semi-finals, with a 2-1 defeat to England. In the third-place playoff, the national team overcame the Soviet Union with a 2-1 victory.
