SurveyMonkey CEO died from severe head trauma

New details surrounding the death of SurveyMonkey CEO, Dave Goldberg, have surfaced.

Late Dave Goldberg

Until now, details surrounding the events that led to his shocking and abrupt death have remained unclear. Several sources close to the family told Mashable that Goldberg was on vacation with his family and friends at the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico, and died after he collapsed while exercising at a gym there.

Efforts to revive him both on site and at the hospital proved abortive and unsuccessful. The family is planning to have an invitation-only ceremony in remembrance of Goldberg at the Stanford Memorial Auditorium today.

The Associated Press further reports that a Mexico official said that Goldberg had suffered severe head trauma as a result of the exercise accident.

The New York Times reports that Goldberg’s brother Robert had found him on the floor of the gym at the resort around 4pm. Goldberg is said to have fallen off the treadmill while working out, and cracked his head open.

The SurveyMonkey CEO is survived by his wife and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, a young daughter and a son. After the announcement of his death on Saturday, members of the tech community expressed sympathy to the family on Twitter, Goldberg’s Facebook timeline and all over the internet.

Reacting to Goldberg’s death, brother Robert Goldberg wrote, "No words can express the depth of loss we feel, but we want his children to learn how much he meant to all of you," in a Facebook post that was shared by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
