Senate president Bukola Saraki has just held a meeting with chairmen of 45 political parties.
The meeting comes on the heels of Saraki's visit to the hilltop Minna mansion of former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
After the meeting, Saraki referred to IBB as "a father and leader". IBB is one of a handful of powerful kingmakers in Nigeria's patronage based political system.
Saraki recently defected from the APC to the PDP and it is widely believed that he is nursing a presidential run ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Saraki's PDP recently entered a coalition with about 38 political parties, with the sole aim of prising the center from the governing APC in 2019.
The senate president is at the center of a raging impeachment controversy, with his former party, the APC, pulling out all the stops to have him removed as the highest ranking lawmaker in the land.
