Governor declares 5th Assembly open

Fayose expressed happiness at the new Assembly, saying past seven months have been full of ‘distractions.’

Governor Ayodle Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has inaugurated the state's fifth Assembly and tasked the lawmakers to enact quality laws.

He made the declaration on Friday, June 5, in Adio Ekiti, as stipulated in the Section 105 Subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution.

Fayose said, “I want to charge the members of this newly inaugurated House of Assembly to see quality legislation as your primary assignment and be diligent with it.

“Always remember that whatever you do today will become history, do not disappoint the people that voted you in.”

He expressed happiness at the new Assembly, saying past seven months have been full of ‘distractions’ – apparently referring to the All Progressives Congress lawmakers who attempted to impeach him.

“I want to tell Ekiti people that I am also being inaugurated today as we are doing for the house because the past seven months have been months of distraction.

“Let me tell you that though the finances of the state have not improved, but I am now ready to hit the ground running.

“I’m more determined and committed to serve you better and I am on this seat for you, I am now ready to deliver more dividends of democracy to my people.

“This government was ordained by God to serve His people, and I am committed to serve you better than ever,” he declared.

NAN reports that a new speaker, deputy and other principal officers of the house were elected shortly after the inauguration.

The Speaker of the 5th assembly, Kolawole Oluwawole of Moba 11, was the former Chief of Staff to Fayose in his first tenure, while his Deputy is Mayowa Adewumi of Ekiti West 1.

The Leader of Business is Akinyele Olatunji while Sunday Akinniyi emerged Chief Whip; Adeniran Alagbada, Deputy Leader; and Ekundayo Akinleye , Deputy Chief Whip.
