After a prolonged deliberation today, Thursday, October 29, the Senate approved the ministerial nomination of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

While the heated debate over his confirmation was on, the apparently aggrieved senators of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) walked out of the senate chamber in protest.
Amaechi's eventual screening and approval had been stalled due to petition filed against him by three Rivers state Senators, citing allegations of corruption levelled against him. The petition was filed before the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges
