Google has come out with an announcement saying its calendar app will no longer send out SMS notifications for regular users after June 27th, 2015.
Google calendar notifications to stop soon
Google apps for Work, Education and Government customers, will not be affected by this new development.
The search giant argued that there is no common sense in sending out the notifications, when users now have smartphones.
In the statement, Google said “SMS notifications launched before smartphones were available. Now, in a world with smartphones and notifications, you can get richer, more reliable experiences on your mobile device, even offline.”
Adding that 'You can get notifications for your events through SMS on your phone. If you have a smartphone, you can get notifications through a calendar app instead.'
