The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had fixed this day for a re-run of elections in 17 states across Nigeria due to violence and many threatening situations encountered earlier.

Despite the move, there was still no safety.

According to the Linda Ikeji's Blog (LIB) a day after the polls, Mohammed was reportedly beaten up by thugs and is lucky to be alive.

"Alhamdulillah. I survived. I was violently attacked by thugs at Santulma Primary School polling unit at Gama Ward in Kano today Saturday.

"I was saved by the grace of God and some good Samaritans, who also took me to Gwagwarwa hospital, where I was admitted for three hours, stitched and discharged. Is the fraud called elections in Nigeria worth dying for? I don’t think so. Lessons learnt."

Also in Kano, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), confirmed that some journalists that were covering the supplementary elections were attacked by suspected political thugs.
