The National Assembly leaders were arraigned today along with former NASS clerk, Salisu Maikasuwa and deputy clerk, Benedict Efeturi.

‎Presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Haliru ordered the defendants to provide two Nigerian sureties who must own property in Abuja.

“The entire proof of service did not mention the third defendant (Saraki) in this case. The police never investigated the third defendant,” Saraki’s lawyer, Paul Erokoro said in urging the court to grant his client bail.

“It is a notorious fact that the third defendant has been standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, (CCT) so it is ridiculous to say he will run away. He is the president of the senate, where will he run to? He is too big to hide.‎ I urge your lordship to grant him bail on self-recognition,” Erokoro added according to The Cable.

Justice Haliru also adjourned the case to July 11.

Saraki and Ekweremadu are facing charges of forgery and conspiracy after being accused of altering the 2015 Senate Standing Rules.
