Magu is going nowhere, says VP

“Seriously, what offence has Magu committed?” Osinbajo questioned.

Osinbajo told the same thing when he hosted online journalists at the Presidential Villa last year.

Speaking at a similar event on Thursday, March 1, 2018, Osinbajo said Magu has not done anything wrong.

“Magu is going nowhere,” Osinbajo announced. “Seriously, what offence has this man committed?” the Vice President questioned.

“I have known him personally right from the time of the very first chairman of the commission till now, he is a very dedicated, trustworthy gentleman. Don’t forget he is also the most senior official of the EFCC,” he added.

Senate rejects Magu

The Nigerian Senate had twice denied Magu’s confirmation as the EFCC boss owning to a damning letter by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The lawmakers also accused the acting EFCC boss of failing to answer questions thrown at him during his screening on the floor of the Senate.

But, Osinbajo however, said Magu could continue his job at the EFCC without Senate's confirmation.

Senate has power to reject Magu

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, however, ruled that the Senate had powers to reject Magu.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, February 1, 2018, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the court ruling has vindicated the Senate.

Abdullahi made a copy of the ruling available to journalists.

"We are pleased with this judgment and we want to salute Nigeria's judiciary for always rising up to the occasion to protect our democracy and deepen our democratic processes," he said.
