Cameron made the comment on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, while speaking to the Queen in Buckingham Palace.

The Presidency’s comments were contained in a statement issued by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

It reads:

“This is embarrassing to us, to us say the least, given the good work that the President is doing. The eyes of the world are on what is happening here. The Prime Minister must be looking at an old snapshot of Nigeria. Things are changing with corruption and everything else.

“That, we believe is the reason they chose him as a keynote speaker at the pre-summit conference.”

Shehu also expressed appreciation to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who told Cameron that Buhari was not corrupt.

Buhari is currently in the UK to attend an anti-corruption summit.
