The government’s statement comes after former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Andrew Pocock told The Sunday Times that the US and the UK had located some of girls but couldn’t do anything to rescue them.

“A couple of months after the kidnapping, fly-bys and an American eye in the sky spotted a group of up to 80 girls in a particular spot in the Sambisa Forest, around a very large tree, called locally the Tree of Life, along with evidence of vehicular movement and a large encampment," Pocock said.

Pocock also said that the Nigerian government was informed of the discovery but did not ask for help.

Buhari had said, during the presidential media chaton December 30, 2015, that his government did not have any idea where the girls were or what condition they were in.
