‘She’s still our Environment Minister despite UN job,’ Garba Shehu says

The Presidency has said that Mrs Amina Mohammed is still Nigeria’s Minister of Environment despite a reported

Mrs Mohammed is said to have been appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN.

However, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has said that she will occupy the cabinet post till further notice.

“There is a lot of exuberance on the net concerning a UN job for Mrs Amina Mohammed. She remains our Minister of Environment,” Shehu said via Twitter on Sunday, December 11.

“If there is anything on this that is released officially, we will let Nigerians know.  I am pleased to know that she enjoys so much goodwill,” he added.

Mrs Mohammed will expectedly serve as deputy to Antonio Guterres, who will assume the office of UN Secretary General on January 1, 2017.

She had served as an adviser to the outgoing UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon before being appointed Minister of Environment in November 2015.
