Police arrests real estate firm's MD over collapsed building incident

Three days ago, a Lekki Gardens property collapsed, killing 35 people and counting. This has led to the arrest of the Managing Director, Richard Nyong.

Vanguard reports that the Lagos state police command arrested Nyong over issues concerning the collapse, which has resulted in the death of 35 people and counting.

The Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer,  Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus confirmed the arrest with this statement.

"Mr of 167, Kushenla road Ikate Elegushi, has been arrested. He is in custody and will  soon be charged to court, " he announced.

News of the arrest broke after Governor Akinwumi Ambode ordered all directors of Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited, owners of the collapsed building, to submit themselves to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, for interrogation.

Governor Ambode gave this 24-hour ultimatum on Wednesday, during the State’s Executive Council meeting.
