Come see the best of African arts and culture, music, fashion and dance at People of Culture today

People of Culture is an annual event hosted to celebrate African culture through dance, music, lifestyle and art.

Come today, August 26, 2018, there will be a special event held in the prestigious Dusable Museum of African American History, Chicago IL tagged “People Of Culture.” This event is hosted annually to celebrate African culture through dance, music, lifestyle and art. It is the first of its kind and is expected to attract a rich cultural mix of Ghanaians, Nigerians, Senegalese, South Africans, Ethiopians and African-Americans who share similar cultural values.

The idea behind the event is to push the dialogue about Africa and hopefully rewrite the narrative and false stereotype of how Africa is portrayed through creative expression like dance, music, art, fashion and lifestyle.

This event is the brainchild of Efe Iyare, an entrepreneur who kickstarted an online/social media platform called Culture Power in 2016, to promote African culture and success stories.

The long term goal is to host the event across several cities in the United States between 2018 and 2020, possibly bringing it back home to Nigeria in 2021.

Renowned Tanzanian fashion designer, Rahel Mwitulab Williams, will be showcasing her latest fashion collection at the event, as part of an effort to celebrate culture. Ghanaian fitness trainer, Jehu Graham, will also be present at the event to talk about fitness, health, body positivity and also showcase his Kente collection.

Additionally, 12 musicians from all over Africa and the diaspora are scheduled to perform at this cultural event.

Successful black business men and politicians, such as Senegalese lifestyle business man Elhadji "HAJ" Gueye who has dressed the likes of Steve Harvey, Mike Tyson, and NBA stars, are expected at the event to mentor, support and give advice to the young generation of creatives and entrepreneurs that will make up the 500 guests in attendance.
