Toyin Abraham's corset gown looks uncomfortable, here's why the trend needs to die
Toyin Abraham’s corset gown for the ‘She Must Be Obeyed’ series premiere is a fashion fail. Fashion is painful, but not that painful.
In videos making the rounds on the internet, Toyin is seen wearing a nude and red gown with shiny stones. She looked uncomfortable and breathless.
The corset trend which started in 2021 has become a regular go-to for fashion designers, Owambe attendees, and Nigerian female celebrities. The fundamental nature of a corset gown is that an actual corset is sewn into the gown.
When choosing a gown, you might be tempted to wear a corset gown if you want your stomach to appear flat, as it will accentuate your thin waist, but the truth is, it will almost feel like your ribcage is being reined in if you don’t already have a flat tummy, making it impossible for you to breathe. The sad truth is, a flat tummy works better with a corset gown.
Another outrageous faux pas in the styling was how the corset extends to her breasts and how the neckline is almost a turtleneck. Corset gowns can be very uncomfortable if you cannot handle the stress that comes with how tight that it can be.
Plus, the proclivity of Nigerian female celebrities to always wear nude, shiny corset gowns at every event is boring. We need to see the end of this trend so women can start breathing.
