The Prosecutor, Insp. Simon Uche, said the accused committed the offences on Oct. 15, 2015 at Satelite Town in Ojo area of Lagos.

According to him, the contractor fraudulently obtained N400,000 from the landlady to build a kitchen for her.

"Gbenga collected the said amount, claiming he would build a kitchen in the compound which he never did but rather resorted to violence and willful damage of the woman's property," he said.

The offences contravened Sections 56(1d), 321 (1), 410 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Paul Adedamola, granted the accused a bail of N100,000 with one surety who must produce evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government.

Further hearing in the case has been fixed for Sept. 13.
