Mr. Evaristus Chukwudi Ukeh has been allegedly murdered by his half brother in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Vanguard reports.

A villager, who pleaded anonymity, said that Evaristus, who was fondly called “the Cross”, by his friends and associates, had a misunderstanding with his alleged assailant earlier in the day.

It was also gathered that the alleged misunderstanding between the deceased and his older half brother initially ended without any serious incident.

An villager said:

“We were all surprised when somebody close to the assailant later worked successfully on his sensibilities and he again went to war.

The witness said the assailant traced the deceased to his house and starting stabbing him with a broken bottle as soon as he (deceased) opened the door.

Information we received  showed that there was nobody in the house when the assailant stormed the home of Evaristus.

So, he was just at the mercy of the attacker who stabbed him to death."

Another witness recalled that as soon as the assailant noticed that the deceased was dead, he fled to Enugu where he thought the long arms of the law would not catch up with him.

“An indigene of the community residing in Enugu, however, saw the fugitive assailant and alerted other members of their community.

"The police was called in and he was nabbed before he changed location,” the witness said.

Although the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, could not be reached on his mobile phone at press time, an officer at Obowo Police Division confirmed the incident but refused to give details.
