Revisiting Davido's 2017 blistering run [Pulse Afrobeats Throwback]

In 2017, the Nigerian music industry witnessed one of the most impressive runs in a calendar year by a Nigerian artist.

Davido

Upon returning to the country after an underwhelming performance of his 2016 EP 'Son Of Mercy', Davido was eager to re-establish himself as a hitmaker.

While away chasing his international ambitions, a new hitmaker was crowned in his stead in the person of Tekno whose tingling hit 'Pana' had taken over the country.

Needing to reassert his supremacy, Davido linked up with Tekno who wrote and produced 'IF' which gave Davido his first hit single for 2017.

With the crown back with its rightful owner, Davido set in motion what was an unbelievable run that remains fresh in the memories of Nigerians five years later.

'IF' the single ushered Davido into another realm where he became the leader of the global 30BG movement. With the groundbreaking success of 'IF', Davido linked with ace producer and songwriter Kiddominant (KDDO) and the result was the sensational tune 'FALL' which achieved international success.

'FALL' replaced 'IF' as the street anthem as Davido kicked off what would become a habit of one Davido song replacing another.

With two love songs that embody the flamboyance, sophistication, and poise of a man with billions to throw around, Davido completed the hattrick with 'FIA'.

'FIA' is a single that conveys the hurt of being taken advantage of which was something Davido could relate to. The megastar tapped Fresh and Perruzi, and together, they created another street anthem.

When the industry thought they have seen it all, Davido completed a super hattrick with the release of 'Like Dat' which many believe is one of his best singles and his most underappreciated song.

'Like Dat' was a joint effort by Davido, Teniola, KDDO, and Shizzi, and together a sensational party anthem.

2017 will be a year that will be remembered in the Nigerian music industry as the year where Davido released a breathtaking 4 hit singles in a historic individual performance in Afrobeats.
