Here are 5 music producers you should pay attention to

Pulse has put together a list of 5 music producers that have caught our attention so far in 2018.

Nigerian producers are often regarded as the life of the party as no one really pays attention to the lyrics when the beat drops on the dance-floor, it is all about the frenzy, rhythm and uncontrollable bumping of your head that the instrumental sparks in that moment.

So while we have had veterans like the late OJB Jezreel, Don Jazzy, Cobhams Asuquo, TY Mix, Nelson Brown, Big Bamo, Sarz, K Solo, Dokta Frabz and more stamp their imprint for decades on the music sound-scape, the past couple of years have thrown up a bunch of younger, vibrant, eclectic and very experimental bunch of new names that have created monster hits and signature sounds in recent times.

Here is a compiled list of five budding producers you should be paying attention to.

Fresh

You know it is about to be a problem when the signature tune, 'Damn Fresh' comes up at the start of a song.

The DMW in-house producer is responsible for a number of hits coming out of the house that Davido built in recent years but like Fresh admits, the song that changed it all for him was ''Fia'', the monster single released in 2017.

In a visit to Pulse, Bello Emmanuel Adeshina, aka Fresh VDM, an acronym for 'Very Disturbing Music', says, ''See, I have been producing beats for a while, but dem no just send me, even my people like Peruzzi, they didn't want to use my beat, but one song (FIA) changed everything and now everybody wants a beat from Fresh.''

Fresh and Dremo, another member of the DMW family have been working together since 2011, so when the latter got signed by Davido, he brought Fresh unto the team and he has since gone on to produce other hit singles like ''Aje'' and ''Mind''.

SperoachBeatz

Another member of the DMW family, who had been working with singer Peruzzi for years and produced his breakout single, 'For Your Pocket', it was the song that caught the attention of Davido and led to Peruzzi penning a deal with DMW in 2017.

And like the case of Fresh, Davido signing Peruzzi led to Speroach becoming a member of the family but no one seemed to take much notice until the monster single, 'Assurance' dropped early in the year and the question on everybody's lips was, 'Who is SperoachBeatz'?

Speroach is quality, has a unique sound to his beat, his productions show his skills lie in crafting beats that are both catchy and hit hard, especially within its first few seconds.

And just to prove that he is capable of spreading his wings beyond the DMW family, Speroach is the man behind 2face Idibia's latest hit single, Amaka, and judging by snippets of his upcoming works, it is only a matter of time before the industry's biggest names come knocking at Speroach’s door, and like he told me, ''this time his production fee has added more zeros from last year''.

Tiwezi

Tiwezi is one name that is steadily popping up at the end of some well-received songs.

The songwriter/producer who is prominent for his in-house works with VJ Adams released a single, 'Eyes on Me' in 2016, but has since grown to producing almost the entire songs on not just VJ Adam's debut album, 'Perception' but also working with Humblesmith on three singles off his ''Osinachi'' album.

Tiwezi is credited to have produced ‘Woos Wobi’  by CDQ and 'MeRule' by Mz Kiss and Slimcase.

Killer Tunes

From struggling to get anyone to accept his beat for Yeba before Kiss Daniel jumped on it and made it iconic to working with Wizkid on 'Fake Love' featuring Duncan Mighty and DJ Spinall's 'Nowo', Killer Tunes's profile has grown fast in a short period.

Killer Tunes is also the man responsible for Kiss Daniel's 'Baba' and Dice Ailes'Mr Biggs'.

With those heavy songs listed in his resume, it is no surprise that he is finally getting the credit that he deserves.

Remy Baggins

Now before you jump and ask the question, Remy who? I dare you to pick up Ice Prince's new EP, C.O.L.D, listen to the first two tracks and familiarize yourself with the one name who will be the future of production in the Nigerian music scene.

Remy Baggins who is also a singer/songwriter alongside Eri Ife put out the incredibly crafted EP, 'YLLW' in May, a project where he displayed both his singing and beat-making sides.

He is also the man behind a number of songs by young and uprising talents like Jinmi Abduls, Yinka Oshodi and more.
