ABC is developing series based on 1970s scandal

The event series will be told from the perspective of John Dean, who was the White House Counsel as at time of scandal.

According to several reports, ABC developing a series based on the 1970s Watergate scandal.

To be produced by Entertainment One and Bob Cooper, the event series will be written by Jon Mass, and will be told from the perspective of John Dean, who was the White House Counsel as at time of scandal.

About John Dean

John Wesley Dean III (born October 14, 1938) served as White House Counsel for United States President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. In this position, he became deeply involved in events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and the subsequent Watergate scandal cover-up. He was referred to as the "master manipulator of the cover-up" by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He pleaded guilty to a single felony count, in exchange for becoming a key witness for the prosecution. This ultimately resulted in a reduced prison sentence, which he served at Fort Holabird outside Baltimore, Maryland.

The Watergate scandal was a major political scandal that occurred in the United States in the 1970s, following a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. and President Richard Nixon's administration's attempted cover-up of its involvement.

When the conspiracy was discovered and investigated by the U.S. Congress, the Nixon administration's resistance to its probes led to a constitutional crisis

According to “Wrap,” the series will partially be based on Dean’s book “The Nixon Defense: What He Knew and When He Knew It,” and also on Alden Duer Cohen’s “The Women of Watergate.”

A historical thriller spy on the Watergate Scandal titled “Felt” is in the works, and will feature Liam Neeson as the famous Watergate informant, Mark Felt, known as Deep Throat.
