Thanks to successful 2016 releases from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, the studio is officially the first studio to cross $7 billion in global box office, as it boasts of $2.7 billion domestically and $4.29 billion internationally.

“This historic achievement is possible because all of our film studios are bringing their absolute best to the table, telling great stories of all kinds that resonate with audiences across borders, gender, and generations,” said Alan Horn, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios. “These films work because each one has not only something for everyone, but everything for someone.”

Disney has been able to set this new record thanks to 2016 blockbusters such as "Finding Dory", “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Zootopia,” which grossed $1 billion at the global box office.

Other 2016 releases of the studio include “Jungle Book” “Moana” and “Doctor Strange.”

The record was previously held by Universal  which grossed $6.89 billion in 2015 thanks to blockbusters such as “Furious 7,” “Minions,” and “Jurassic World.”
