Singer quits television series ‘The Voice’

Fear of being dropped after ITV take over was the major reason behind the judge exit from the show

Ricky Wilson

Lead singer Charles Richard "Ricky" Wilson of English band Kaiser Chiefs says goodbye to The Voice.

Ricky confirmed that he has no plans to return to the BBC singing competition once it moves over to ITV, who bought the format after outbidding the Beeb.

"This is my last one anyway, yeah. I was going to bow out gracefully," he previously told The Mirror. I don’t think ITV would want me. They would want to have a totally new show."

Although the broadcasting company didn’t say whether or not Ricky would have been dropped after taking over the show, the Kaiser Chiefs frontman has admitted that he has a plan for ITV to improve the show - hide the singers.

"ITV when you get the format, one of your other channels - like ITV 2 - should have a show on at the same time where you can't see the contestants sing," Ricky saying.

He added that ITV will have their work cut out to compete with this series, saying: "The BBC are making it as hard as possible for them by making this one the best."

Ricky was the reigning champion of the show after coaching Stevie McCrorie to victory in the fourth series that ended in April.
