The teenage girls reportedly defeated representatives from the United States of America (USA), Spain, Turkey, Uzbekistan and China to emerge the winner of the 2018 Technovation world pitch junior division in San Francisco, USA.
The five girls are Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye
Celebrating the five girls on Twitter, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo said the country is proud of the students achievement.
He tweeted, these young ladies in Junior Secondary School, developed a mobile application called 'FD Detector' to tackle the problems of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.
Yesterday, they won the 2018 Technovation World Pitch in California. Congratulations! We are very proud of you.
According to reports, the five girls were selected from 2,000 mobile app developers to represent Africa at the world pitch
Apart from winning the competition, the five girls also set a record of being the first Nigerian teenagers to visit Silicon Valley where they will pitch their app to investors.
Recall that our students of Whitesands School, Lekki who represented Nigeria and Africa at the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge in Florida have emerged the winner of a category in the competition.
The four students, William Afolabi, Mordi Menash, Famobiwo Olubusuyi and Ugbo Osagumwenro won the Smoke-Free World category of the competition at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Florida, US.
