Candidates held protest in Lagos

The examination body has admitted in the past that it hopes to be able to find a lasting solution to the CBT issues experienced by applicants

Joint Admission And Matriculation Board

A large number of candidates who recently wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination gathered at the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, to hold a protest concerning the inconsistency in the examination results.

Many of these students were very bitter, holding placards and unified chants in a bid to show their dissatisfaction concerning their plight.

Some of these protesters have been seeking admission into a tertiary institution, many years after they had graduated from the secondary school.

A female protester who spoke to Punch said, “I got my result through SMS. They gave 230 before my examination. After examination, they sent another SMS – 142!”

The conduct of the examination by the UTME body is regarded as a sham, with no feature of credibility.

One of the unhappy applicants advised the tertiary institutions to disregard the result for this year and focus on the examinations conducted by the universities.

An applicant who admitted that she also had a problem with her examination said, “My own advice to all institutions, higher institutions is that, they should disqualify JAMB score for this year.”

It can be said that the Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board is looking inefficient as the years go by, especially since it introduced the Computer Based Test (CBT).

This is supposed to make the examination seamless considering the amount of applicants that write the examination annually, but it has only led to complaints.
