A politician contesting the December 5 governorship elections in Bayelsa state, Barrister Henry Apeli, has promised to effect far-reaching changes in the education sector if elected into office.
Speaking in Abuja, Apeli, who is running on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC), said his government would focus on education, agriculture, transportation, youth and women empowerment.
He promised to provide free and qualitative education at the Primary and Junior Secondary School levels.
The governorship aspirant also said he will ensure that the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) accredits all the courses offered by the Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island.
He also promised to establish more technical, vocational and marine institutions in the state.
Apeli will be facing stiff opposition in the governorship race from incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Henry Seriake Dickson, and a two-time governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, who won the All Progressives Party Congress (APC) primary election.
His running mate is Mrs. Seiyefa Fetepigi Eches.
