According to reports, Barcelona board are planning to appoint their former Captain in the next coming days.
The Catalan giants have concluded an agreement with Xavi's legal team,, and they are also in talks with his Al-Sadd about the cost of his contract.
Although nothing has been agreed or completed yet because Barcelona are also looking at other targets, including Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag, who, I think, should be the first choice.
However, Xavi has an excellent record as former player and as coach, maybe that's the reason Barcelona are going all out for him.
Xavi Hernandez has won 7 trophies to in just over 2 years as Al Saad coach, and they are currently unbeaten in the league, but he has no experience in Europe and Barcelona might be making another great mistake, if they should appoint him.
Most of the players of Barcelona are under the age of 25, so they need an experience manager who can get the out of them.
I don't think Xavi possesses the needed experience yet, and it's better to try a proven manager like Erik Tan Hag who has good reputation of working with the youths.
Stars like Matthijs de Ligt, Frankie de Jong, Donny van de Beek and Hakim Ziyech, are some of the notable names that developed under him, and they have gone on to secure big moves away from the club.
The Dutchman led achieves plenty of success with a young Ajax side, including leading them to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, where they were eventually beaten by Tottenham.
Hag, who previously worked at Bayern Munich, can work with little resources and still build an excellent team that will challenge for titles.
I'm confident he will be an instant hit at the Club, unlike Xavi, who is just two years into management, and he will largely learn on the job.
However, It's too soon to tell how Xavi will perform, but this idea of having recently retired club legends as managers doesn't really work out well.
Lampard, Arteta, Solskjaer, Koeman, Pirlo, Gattuso, Henry — these are examples of Club legends who failed to perform when given a managerial role.
They are not always the best tacticians and also lack the experience to manage the squad, pressure, and expectations from fans. Hence, the chances of failing are high.
