Dustin Johnson climbs to third in world golf rankings
Fresh from finishing tied for second at the U.S. Open on Sunday, Dustin Johnson has risen to number three in world golf rankings.
The American had the chance to claim his first major title at Chambers Bay, but three-putted the last to lose out by one stroke to Jordan Spieth, who became the first player to win the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year since Tiger Woods in 2002.
Despite his disappointment, Johnson climbs four places to third, one behind Spieth, who remains second with Rory McIlroy still number one.
Johnson finished joint second alongside Louis Oosthuizen, who mounted a late charge on day four and moves up 11 places in the rankings to 16th.
Inside the top 10, Justin Rose ascends one place to fourth, while Jim Furyk drops three spots to sixth, sandwiched between Bubba Watson and Henrik Stenson.
Jason Day, who battled with vertigo throughout much of the weekend, moves up two spots from 10th to eighth.
Elsewhere, Branden Grace - tied for fourth at Chambers Bay - jumps from 40th to 27th.
