US legend won't play U.S. Open or Quicken Loans National

Former world number one Tiger Woods hasn't played all four rounds at a major since the 2015 Masters and will sit out the U.S. Open.

Tiger Woods is set to miss yet another major championship.

The 14-time major winner made the expected official on Tuesday, announcing he will not compete in the U.S. Open at Oakmont, or the Quicken Loans National at Congressional the following week, as he continues to work his way into shape after back surgery.

"While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year's U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National," Woods said in a statement posted on his website.

"I am making progress, but I'm not yet ready for tournament competition."

The news is no surprise after the sight of Woods putting three consecutive wedge shots in the water three weeks ago during a media day for the Congressional event, which he hosts.

The 40-year-old former world number one has completed only two of the last nine major championships, skipping three due to injury and missing the cut in four more. The last of his 14 major titles came at the 2008 U.S. Open.

"I want to thank everyone for their continued support," Woods wrote. "The positive texts, emails and calls I have received have been incredible."
